This is a research I have conducted about the possible employment of dispensing optician. Based on the research I have made, there is a big demand on dispensing optician position in an ophthalmic clinic. The survey was made from month of May until July, 2008 in all ophthalmic clinics within the area of Daegu and Gyeongsangbuk-do. Currently, there are about 40 places in Korea which has Ophthalmic Optics Department and about 2000 students graduate every year. In entire Korea, there are about 8,000 optical shop(eyeshop.) Within Daegu and Gyeongsangbuk-do, there are about 9 places that have Ophthalmic Optics Department. About 560 graduating dispensing optician are from Daegu and Gyeongsangbuk-do area.
As a result, the demand of optical shop(eyeshop) within Daegu and Gyeongsangbuk-do area is very much needed.
Each optical shop(eyeshop) in Korea needs to have about 25% dispensing optician and 56% is needed in Daegu and Gyeongsangbuk-do area which is higher in demand. I therefore conclude that based on my survey, dispensing opticians are demanding 13 places (72%) to have ophthalmic clinics out of 18 places.
